GJKS and SHG Women Plant Over 100 Fruit Trees to Celebrate World Environment Day
This World Environment Day, GJKS (Gramin Jan Kalyan Samiti) celebrated nature not just with words, but with action. In a vibrant drive to restore our local green cover, our NGO, in collaboration with the dedicated women of our Self-Help Groups (SHGs), successfully planted over 100 saplings across the village.
More Than Just Shade: Planting for Nutrition
We believe that environmental sustainability should go hand-in-hand with community welfare. That is why, for this plantation drive, we moved beyond decorative plants and focused on fruit-bearing trees.
The 100+ saplings planted include:
-
Mango (King of Fruits)
-
Guava
-
Lemon
-
Litchi
By planting these specific varieties, we are ensuring that in a few years, these trees will provide not only oxygen and shade but also nutritious fruit for local families. This initiative turns environmental protection into a source of health and potential livelihood for the community.
Women as Guardians of Nature
The success of this event belongs to the women participants of our Self-Help Groups. In rural India, women have always been the traditional custodians of nature and agriculture. Their enthusiastic participation turned a simple plantation drive into a community festival.
Seeing these women dig the earth, plant the saplings, and water them was a powerful reminder that Nari Shakti (Women Power) is essential for the preservation of Prakriti (Nature).
A Promise for the Future: The ‘One Tree’ Pledge
Planting a tree is easy; keeping it alive requires commitment. To ensure this initiative is not just a one-time event, every participant took a solemn vow.
We have pledged that each of us will plant and nurture at least one tree every year on World Environment Day.
This pledge transforms a single day of celebration into a lifetime habit of conservation. If every member plants and protects just one tree annually, we can transform the landscape of Ballia within a decade.
Conclusion
At GJKS, we are committed to growing a greener, healthier future. With the support of our SHG women, we are planting the seeds of hope today to harvest a better tomorrow.
